Emergency Response

WGC’s Environmental K9 Group maintains a strict level of preparedness through a fully monitored 24-hour hotline and deployment ready response teams on standby at all times.  Our flexibility, professional relationships, and resources enable us to provide a targeted, incident specific, emergency wildlife response team throughout North America.  Whether precise identification of leak sources or emergency wildlife management services are needed during an oil spill response, Environmental K9 Group can provide immediate assistance to minimize financial and environmental impacts due to oil release incidents.

Wildlife Deterrence

Our emergency wildlife response team employs a multifaceted, customized approached developed for each oil release incident to deter wildlife from entering contaminated areas.  Our program typically utilizes a variety of K9 services, frightening devices, visual deterrents, and structural exclusion techniques to manage the wildlife in and around the impacted area.  Our main premise is built upon that fact that if we can prevent wildlife from coming in contact with the released product through our science-based deterrents, we can reduce the environmental and financial damage potential of the incident.

Wildlife Monitoring and Data Collection

Our team includes biologists trained in the identification and monitoring of wildlife populations with extensive experience in data collection and report compilations.  We understand that thorough documentation and analysis is key to developing and maintaining a comprehensive wildlife management program throughout the course of an incident response.  Our data and reports are a critical aspect of communication between our teams on the ground and our clients, and are designed to help fulfil any requirements from various regulatory agencies that may also be involved.

Wildlife Recovery and Care

When an oil spill event results in oiled wildlife, it is of utmost importance to begin stabilization and care of impacted animals immediately.  The Environmental K9 Group team has years of experience in animal behavior with a focus on avian species.  Our team stands ready to provide the licensed wildlife rehabilitation team with safe, effective wildlife capture and transportation services.  Our team also provides skilled and experienced labor to assist with cleaning and care of oiled wildlife as part of a cooperative wildlife response team.  WGC’s Environmental K9 Group values collaboration, and has standing relationships with a variety of other top-notch wildlife specialists, including internationally recognized and permitted rehabilitation contractors.  We have the resources and flexibility to coordinate and integrate an oil spill emergency wildlife response team specific to the size, scope, and ecology of the incident to provide the best overall wildlife deterrent and care services available.

Safety

WGC’s Environmental K9 Group recognizes the complexity involved in oil spill response activities and the numerous agencies and contractors that need to work together to successfully minimize the impact of release events.  Our team receives extensive safety training and thoroughly monitors and updates our safety plan and protocols for each project.  Additionally, our team is trained in the Incident Command System, and can seamlessly integrate into oil spill response activities as unique wildlife specialists within the overall emergency team.
