Canada Goose Management.
Why an intergrated approach works...
Complexities of urban goose issues and the current
limitations of available techniques make a quick-fix for your
goose problem very unlikely. You are more likely to
control your goose problem by combining two or more techniques
than coming up with a short-term, single approach to the problem.
At Wild Goose Chase, we implement Canada goose management through an intergrated
approach:
- using our Border Collie chase program,
- helping you with their landscape design,
- offering the product Flight Control to spray on your turf,
- performing egg depredation in the spring, and
- displaying wildlife signage to help remind your
customers or employees to not feed the geese.
For new customers, we perform a review of
your property. This enables us to develop a specific
goose management program integrating
the services and schedule that works best for your property.
Here are some other factors we consider
when planning a goose management program for your business or
property:
- Time of year is critical...different problems
occur seasonally because of goose habits and biology. So, different techniques
and combination of goose control methods are needed based on the season
and problems brought on by that season.
- Property characteristics will
determine what kind of management techniques are needed and most effective.
- Budget and legality of control methods.
- Communication and education for all involved parties like building managers, employees, tenants, your customers. Then, everyone is aware and able to support the mangement of the nuisance geese in the best possible way.
Over the past six years Wild Goose Chase (WGC), Inc. has developed
a management program for customers which documents goose activity. We use
this to make cost effective service recommendations.
The "tracking" of
goose count data & their
locations allows WGC staff to analyze why some areas of goose activity
are more attractive than other areas. We re-examine the
property layout to find out if alterations need to be made to our control
techniques so these areas are less attractive to geese. For example,
perhaps Flight Control® is needed on some grassy turf areas or
some landscape modifications to discourage the geese from grazing or nesting.
After analyzing the data, we might adjust our service
times to be there when we see the most goose activity. Tracking
provides necessary data for us to be able to make cost
effective future recommendations.
At Wild Goose Chase, Inc. we take the time to track the goose data of every service
visit; this data is analyzed weekly. We provide monthly reports to each of our clients as a means for accountability. More importantly, we use the information collected with our clients to improve goose control
on their property. Goose control on a property is a joint effort and the
more both parties know the better and more efficient we can service a property.
